Austin goes from darling of the US to latest city to bash as overpriced in ''Best Of' lists but there's still phenomenally positive things to look forward to and be proud of.
Austin can still be the 'Next Austin' & LinkedGlenn is scouring the interwebs weekly to show most exciting projects submitted for site permit approval. Obviously getting full city approval will delay these projects ground breaking till 2023 but huge things are still ahead for Austin!
CSW Far West Mixed Use - 3525 Far West Blvd
Likely not another Frost Tower to replace their drive-thru bank on Far West Blvd but the nearly 4-acre site is ripe for redevelopment with easy access to Mopac. LinkedGlenn lived nearby while attending UT but with all the student housing still being developed on West Campus all bets are this will be grown-up housing and hopefully with some good retail and restaurants for the mixing part..
717 Parmer - 701 E Parmer Lane - Dell Computers
Dude you're getting a Pickleball Court! Dell Computers looking to bring employees back to the office by adding pickleball courts to their longtime Parmer Lane campus. Curious if an employee amenity survey prompted the new courts or Michael Dell is a huge pickleball fan? He recently bought into Austin's Professional Bull Riding team The Gamblers so maybe a stake in Austin's Major League Pickleball is next?
Champion Commercial Development (hotel) - 6025 N Capital of Tx Hwy
No word yet on if the recent AUSTIN Hollywoodesque sign near the 360 Bridge is related to Hotel project a permit just submitted for at SE corner of 360 & 2222. The 8-acre site could be tricky to develop due to topography but pretty easy compared to the Four Season Condo's around the corner overlooking Lake Austin. And with hotel extraordinaires Bunkhouse Group rumored to be involved I bet it will be huge 'hit', especially with the Dell Matchplay tournament just down the road at Austin Country Club.
The Evergreen at Whisper Valley - 9501 N FM 973
SSSHHHHHHHH..... if you listen closely you can hear much more housing coming to SH130 near Tesla. A site permit application has been submitted The Evergreen, a planned 350-unit, garden-style apartment home community located in the 2,067-acre Whisper Valley master planned community.
Midtown Point - 6000 Middle Fiskville Rd
Looks like a private developer is taking a page from the City of Austin's playbook and repurposing a local hotel. The Holiday Inn near the old Highland Mall has a permit submitted to demolish the 9 story, 189 room hotel and replace with a new office building of unreported size on the 8.21-acre site. Hopefully with a site right around the corner from the City's Planning and Development Center this project can get a quick approval and soon add to ACC's Highland campus area redevelopment.
Horsepower Ranch - 12412 FM 812 Rd
A permit has been filed for maybe only the 2nd new project surrounding COTA's F1 track in SE Travis County since the track opened 10+ years ago. No word on exactly what the Horsepower Ranch development might be but permit application notes to be 4 commercial buildings for the 4.27-acre site and betting will involve fast cars.
Urban Roots Winnebago - 4711 Winnebago Lane
A permit has been filed for a new Urban Roots community urban farm thru a lease on a 9.4-acre city owned site on Winnebago Lane in SE Austin. The project will not likely house much vertical development but included here because it is a great community benefit and wanted to draw attention that Austin has a street called Winnebago Lane. Previous reports show Urban Roots planning to produce 20,000 pounds of food annually at the site with paid interns and volunteers. Sixty percent of that produce will be sold at local farmers markets while the remaining 40 percent will be donated to emergency feeding shelters.
Stay tuned next week for an update on the best project site permits submitted this week!
